FOREWORD

Aceh is a special territory of Indonesia, located on the northern tip of the island of Sumatra. Its full name is Nanggröe Aceh Darussalam.

For centuries, Aceh produced numerous materials, including various spices and therefore were able to attract many western traders interested in coming to the region to purchase supplies.

There is a long history behind Aceh’s well-known Islamic Kingdom and Nanggröe Aceh Darussalam has inherited a lot of historical relics and still boasts a very rich traditional culture.

Since the devastating tsunami of 26^th December 2004 and the more recent MoU between the Government of Indonesia and the Acehnese Separatist Movement, Aceh has re-opened and now welcomes the arrival of increasing numbers of tourists.

This blog has been produced in order to assist visitors to Aceh to discover for themselves the delights and wonders of Aceh’s countryside, its people and traditional culture.
